How do I activate my HBO GO?

All of you know what HBO is... but it can get confusing when people start talking about HBO Go.

But it's really not that complicated. To help you understand what HBO Go is and how to use it, Pocket-lint has explained everything you need to know about the free streaming service in this post.

What is HBO Go?

You can only use HBO Go if HBO is part of your cable package through a participating TV provider (such as Time Warner, etc). It's a free streaming service available on a variety of devices for people who subscribe to HBO. It provides on-demand access to most of HBO's library, including popular series, movies, specials, and original content. It doesn't give the live TV, but new content is typically available within minutes after the live broadcast.

HBO fans have it great these days. Subscribers will watch their favorite shows and films whether seated in front of their TV or on a device while riding the bus to work. The content in HBO GO is outstanding. You can stream in high definition shows such as The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, True Detective, West world, The Wire and Curb Your Enthusiasm. All of them in the original version and with subtitles in several languages.

Platforms where you can use HBO Now

While there is a full list here, most platforms have access to apps for both now and Go. They include:

To activate HBO GO on your SMART TV (Apple TV, Android TV, LG TV, Samsung TV),

•         Open the HBO GO app on Smart TV
•         Click on "Connect your provider account"

Follow the directions on the screen to activate your Smart TV

On your computer or mobile web browser, go to https://hbogola.com/activate or you can scan the QR code displayed on the TV screen with your mobile phone

If you activate through the activation URL, enter the code displayed on the TV screen to continue. If you activate with the QR code and you've got the HBO GO App already installed on your mobile phone and you're logged in, you’re SMART TV will be automatically activated once you scan the QR code.

•         Download HBO Go from Google Play.
•         Open the app - this will force open a login page.

HBO GO activate on Amazon Fire TV Stick

•        Firstly, Download the HBO GO app from Amazon Fire TV store.
•         Open HBO GO on the device.

In The main menu, highlight 'Welcome' and press the right navigation ring of the Amazon Fire TV remote.

On the Welcome screen, make sure that Activate HBO GO is highlighted and press the choose button on the remote. This will create an activation code. Remain on this page while you have entered the code on your computer.

•          On your computer, navigate to www.hbogo.com/activate.
•          Select your TV provider.
•          On the Activate a Device page, enter the activation code and then click Activate Device.
•          A Success message ought to be visible on your television and browser.

HBO GO activate on Roku

•          Find the HBO Go into the Channel Store and download.
•          Then Launch HBO Go on the Roku.

Tap Activate Your Device which will generate a code. Enter this code on your computer at www.hbogo.com/activate.

•         Select the Roku Streaming Player.
•         Select your TV provider and enter password/login connected with the account.

HBO Now activate on PlayStation4

3. Uninstall HBO GO

Sometimes, if all else fails and HBO GO won’t play on Xbox One; the simplest method is just uninstalling your app and reinstalling it.

•          Go to My games & apps. Highlight HBO GO and then press the Menu button on the controller.
•         Unplug your Xbox One and u power cord from your Xbox One.
•          Install again HBO GO (go to Apps and download HBO GO).
•          You’re good to go.
